However, I feel that ultimately I just can't justify my story in a self-consistent manner. And if there's no self-consistency, it's just escapist. Not that there's anything wrong with escapism per se, it's just not the kind of fiction that I want to write.
The other problems I've been having, like a difficulty coming up with characters, are not why I'm thinking about abandoning the setting. Those are problems that I have in any fiction I create. However, they make it more difficult for me to decide to choose to keep at this setting.
If anyone has any thoughts that they'd like to share with me, go right ahead.
This will be the first time I've completely abandoned a setting in years. The other was a vampire setting. No, I'm not going to talk about it. Let's just say that it got really messy and leave it at that.
In other news, the state has finally gotten around to issuing me my EMT-B certification. About time, too.
EDIT: I'm taking down my LaV stories for now. If anyone wants a copy of them, send me a note and I'll send you one. For now, I don't want them publicly available.
I'm sorry.
EDIT2: I've done some thinking, and I can keep my LaV setting as it is. However, the story that I was writing has to go. I just cannot justify it in the context of the setting as it currently is. That's unfortunate, but a consistent world is far more important to me than any given plot.
I remembered that I have some other material that I can use in the setting. It takes place in the past of the story I was writing. I may go into more detail if I can flesh those out.
